Friday was another hot day across central, southern and south-eastern regions of England with temperatures again soaring into the mid-thirties. The good news, if it's all becoming a bit too much for you, is that cooler and fresher conditions are now moving down from the northwest in the wake of a cold front that is crossing southeast England today.

That cold front is generally a very weak affair, but it has sparked one or two heavy thunderstorms overnight towards the southeast of the UK. Any remaining showers and storms will move away to the east this morning and then for most places it will be a dry and bright day. It will feel much more comfortable,with temperatures back nearer to normal, although values of 25°C to 28°C are still expected across southern and south-eastern counties of England.

Not everywhere will stay dry today, though. Showers will feed into central and northern Scotland on a brisk northwesterly breeze, with some of these turning heavy at times. Here, temperatures will reach the mid to high teens at best, which isn't too dissimilar to recent days.

A few showers will continue in the north tonight, while some showery outbreaks of rain will move into parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland later in the night. Elsewhere, it will be largely dry and noticeably cooler and fresher compared with recent nights, particularly across southern areas.

Tomorrow will see cloud and rain affecting northern and western regions of the UK, with the rain tending to become more showery as the day progresses. For many parts of England and Wales, however, it will be another largely dry and fine day with temperatures much nearer to normal for the time of year.
