June draws to a close with a cooler north-westerly air stream affecting many parts of the country today as a ridge of high pressure tries to nose in from the southwest. There will be a few showers around but for most places it will be mainly dry if rather cloudy for a lot of the time.
We start off this morning with the remnants of the frontal system that gave parts of Ireland, Wales and northern England a damp spell yesterday clearing south-eastwards across southern parts of the UK. This front is very weak, bringing little more than the odd light shower, and will clear away to the southeast this morning with clearer, sunnier conditions following. However, it won't be long before cloud amounts increase again and then for much of the country it will be a day with variable and often large amounts of cloud, the thickest of which could bring the odd shower, especially towards the north and east.
There will be some sunny spells though and by this afternoon the best of the sunshine is expected to be across western parts of Ireland, coastal parts of Wales and down towards southwest England, but some other coastal regions will become brighter with the cloudier skies tending to be across more inland regions.
Temperatures will be nothing too exciting for the end of June, especially with a cool breeze blowing. Maximums will range from the mid-high teens across northern regions to the low twenties across the south, but it will feel pleasant enough in any sunny spells.
A mainly dry evening and night follows for many regions with variable amounts of cloud continuing to drift around. However, a band of rain and drizzle will arrive across the west and northwest of the country and this will make its way eastwards across most places as we head into tomorrow but any rainfall in the south will be very light and patchy with some places staying dry throughout.
