A weakening cold front will be crossing the country during the next 24 hours or so bringing little more than a band of cloud and the odd shower as it moves through but the main change will be felt in the form of temperatures which will drop back from the high twenties seen in recent days as cooler and fresher air makes inroads.
There's an unseasonably deep low pressure system sitting off the coast of western Scotland today and it is this feature that is driving that cold front eastwards. To start with this morning that front is lying north to south from eastern Scotland, down across northwest England, Wales and into southwest England, the front bringing a band of cloud and some patchy rain. That band of cloud will continue to push eastwards today, the rain largely dying out apart from for northeast Scotland and the Northern Isles where some heavy rain could develop for a time, and then brighter skies will follow on behind for many regions.
However, that deep low close to the northwest will bring an increasingly windy and showery day for western Scotland and Northern Ireland, the showers becoming prolonged at times as winds gust up to gale force. Showers will also break out across the rest of Scotland, Ireland and parts of northern England, but by this afternoon much of the rest of England and Wales will be largely fine again.
It will be a warm start to the day across central and eastern Britain and those temperatures will rise quickly this morning before settling down at maximums of 22°C to 25°C as that cold front passes through so a cooler day for many, but for some eastern coasts it will actually be a warmer and sunnier afternoon after the cool and misty conditions of yesterday. It will be cooler across much of the north and west with values in the mid teens, and feeling cool in the strong winds and showers.
It remains windy across much of the north tonight with further showers or longer spells of rain but southern Britain will be drier with some clear spells and it will be a cooler night for all regions. This sets the tone for tomorrow with northern regions seeing further showers whilst the south is drier with some sunny spells whilst temperatures will be back closer to normal.
