Rain Incoming
Added : Mon 22 March : 06:43 BST

A band of rain, heavy in places, is affecting parts of western Scotland, eastern Ireland, west Wales and down towards southwest England this morning, and as we go through the day this rain will spread further east.

Many central and eastern areas are starting off dry with some sunshine towards the southeast, but cloud will tend to thicken as we go through the day with rain crossing many areas. It is likely to be tonight before the rain reaches East Anglia and southeast England though, and the rain will be mainly light by then.

Following the rain band will be brighter skies but also a scattering of showers, especially across northern and western areas. Some of these showers could turn out to be on the heavy side, and perhaps wintry too over the highest ground.

The last of the cloud and any rain will soon clear the southeast tonight and then it will be a dry night with clear spells for most. Some patchy frost and fog is likely to form too, but temperatures will lift later over Ireland as skies cloud over once again. This will be in advanced of the next weather system which will bring rain into south-western areas on Tuesday, but many other areas should see some bright and sunny spells.

 Spring Sunshine For Some
Added : Sun 21 March : 10:16 BST

For most of the country today, it will be a dry day with plenty of spring sunshine around to enjoy, and a vast improvement on yesterday across much of England. There is a band of cloud and patchy rain affecting some western areas, but this is pretty weak and certainly won't bring a wash out, whilst the last of yesterday's cloud and rain is now clearing the southeast of England.

This band of cloud is currently lying across eastern parts of Ireland, Northern Ireland and up towards western Scotland, with most of the rain that's currently falling over the west of Scotland. This band of cloud will head slightly further eastwards today, and may bring a few showers to western England and Wales before the day is out. For many though it will be a dry day with sunny spells, and temperatures close to or just above normal for the time of year.

The last of that cloud and any showers will tend to fizzle out tonight and for much of England it will be a dry night with clear spells allowing some mist or fog patches to form. Further to the north and west, clouds will thicken once again as the next band of rain comes in from the west. This band of rain will move eastwards on Monday, but will again tend to weaken as it does so. Brighter skies and showers will follow into the west, whilst the south and east will remain dry, bright and mild for much of the day.

The changeable outlook continues through the coming week, with Atlantic low pressure systems never too far away. Central and eastern areas will be dry and bright again on Tuesday, but the north and west will turn wet and windy. More rain is expected over western areas on Wednesday, with the east again staying mainly dry, but by the end of the week rain or showers will affect all parts.
