The final weekend of April is looking increasingly unsettled as low pressure pushes up from the south bringing rain with it, especially to central and eastern Britain tonight and tomorrow, but this system will eventually pave the way for somewhat milder air to return to many places as we head into next week.
It's a cold and frosty start to the weekend across many northern regions of Britain away from coastal regions where there are still some showers feeding in. It is less cold across the south this morning though and that's thanks to a fair amount of cloud cover, this cloud bringing outbreaks of rain to southern parts of England and Wales. That rain, locally quite heavy, will creep further north today, weakening as it does so, so that by the time it moves across the Midlands and into parts of northern England this afternoon it turns more showery in nature.
Elsewhere and early sunshine will give way to increasingly cloud amounts with a scattering of showers breaking out by this afternoon, particularly across northern Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland although not everywhere will catch a shower. A few showers will also break out across southern England this afternoon after a drier interval but again some places will manage to stay dry.
Temperatures will again be rather subdued across many regions with values this afternoon in the range of 9°C to 12°C, but the first signs of a change in air mass appear in the far south of England where maximums of 14°C or 15°C are possible.
Showers in the north and west this evening will die out overnight to leave another dry, mainly clear and cold night here but for many parts of England and Wales it will be less cold as thickening cloud pushes up from the south bringing outbreaks of rain with it, the rain turning heavy at times. That rain continues to push northwards tomorrow, primarily affecting eastern parts of Scotland and then the Northern Isles with drier and somewhat brighter conditions following although further showers are likely in the west.
